I'm sure it's been around for a few weeks, but today was the first chance I had to really test it.

I gave her a pencil, and put it in her left hand. She made a few scribbles, then switched to her right hand, smiled, and started to "write."

So two left-handed parents have produced two right-handed daughters. I'm a little disappointed about this, I think. But it's her brain telling her what to do, and it's hard to argue with genetics.

It's always funny how it works out. My daughter is a leftie with two rightie parents. My son is a rightie from a rightie mom and a leftie dad - a dad with 3 siblings, and they are two righties and two lefties. His leftie sister has 3 kids, two of whom are lefties themselves. So ya just never know! I did really think Mr Bear would be a leftie though.

I think lefties are attracted to each other. My brother is left-handed and so is his wife. All three of their children are right-handed. Same with my college-roommate's folks. Both left handed. Both of their kids are righties. *shrug*. You'd think it would be different, wouldn't you?

We still have no verdict on Max. He eats and colors with both hands.

Actually, "handed-ness" is one of the genes I've always heard of as skipping generations, so it probably has more to do with your parents than you. *Sagenod* Both of my parents are righties, but they each have one leftie parent.

I didn't know that! So, it's likely that if I ever have a granddaughter, she might be the only person in the family to learn to crochet from me. :)

Probably. My grandmother was the one who was delegated to teach me to knit, not that I put in the time to learn. Oops.

If it muddies the water any, my kids have both decided they play hockey left handed while they both write with their right hands.

Strange that my father used to play sports left handed but everything I do is right (sports and penmanship included)

Are your parents right or left handed? My mother is left handed, but had it "taught out" (IE, they taped her hand in school and forced her to write with her right hand) everyone else in the family is right handed, no genetics of sorts to attach to her.

My parents are both right-handed; Piet's mom should have been left-handed but it was also taught out. Other than that, everyone is right-handed except for me and Piet.

I wonder how many left handed people are out there that don't know they are left handed. My mother said it was very common to have it taught out in school, I mean if parents started pushing it on their kids from the get go, who knows, right? (or left as the case may be, but it really was not an intended pun.. LOL)

I don't really get the reasoning for the schools to try to eradicate it, but I guess they had their reasons. Trying to think back in my family line, no one older than my mother was left handed, so I wonder how far back the teaching out goes!

Sure! I thought I'd already friended you, but I must have been wrong - sorry for the oversight!

I think you've still got a window. Claire's just 1, is she not? Jairus' various therapists (mostly OT's) always told me that handedness doesn't settle until at least 2 or 3 years old.

My dad is right handed and also does sports left. I could never figure that one out....kicking a soccer ball with my left felt so strange...
And apparently my nana (mom's grandma) was left handed but forced right. I've heard that doing that can mess up alot more in your brain than just what hand you write with...
