Evaluations
Feb. 20th, 2007 02:41 pmI know what I expect to happen, here. I'm wondering if my previous observations will pan out, here. Some of you may recognize the poll from
bradhicks; he posted one very similar to it earlier today.

[Poll #931501]
(no subject)
May. 12th, 2006 08:54 amThere's an article in the paper this morning indicating pandemic plans for both the U.S. and Canada. The plans call for a general, save-as-many-as-possible type approach to delivery of vaccines and antivirals, but there have been some efforts to prioritize certain groups in the likely scenario of scarce resources. The article said that both the U.S. and Canada have placed seniors above youth and children on the priority list.
This disturbs me greatly. I would like to think we'd be able to give vaccine to everyone, but if it comes down to a choice, I would not prioritize my grandparents above my children - and I don't think my grandparents would, either.
So, a poll. In what order should vaccines be given in the event of a flu pandemic? I'm making a few assumptions here, the chief one being that front-line health care workers are automatically first, followed by essential personnel in industries required to keep things happening - for example, electricity, water treatment, police, firefighters - you get the idea. This poll is assuming that those groups have already received their shots. I'm also defining youth as being basically from age 15-25. The designation "children" covers everyone younger than that. Lastly, I'm assuming that the flu will hit all age groups pretty much evenly, so there will be no particular advantage to being a certain age when you catch the flu - it will kill someone 5, 15, 25, 65, and 85 in just about equal percentages given a basically healthy individual to start with.
