It looks pretty, but other than a little speed it seems to have no advantages over the backyard composter.

Speed and convenience - it's under the kitchen sink, and you do nothing to the refuse between putting it in there and taking out the finished compost. That skips at least two steps over the backyard variety, which I never actually get around to using.

Also, it takes meat and other things that can't be safely composted in your backyard composter, because it's at a higher temperature. Having it in your kitchen reduces the likelihood of local critters getting into it, too.
