It's $449 from Home Depot.

If it were $100, I'd get it on the next paycheque. I need an easier way to compost stuff for my own garden if I'm going to do as much gardening as I plan to. In any case, it's something I'll look into buying in the spring or summer.

It looks pretty, but other than a little speed it seems to have no advantages over the backyard composter.

Speed and convenience - it's under the kitchen sink, and you do nothing to the refuse between putting it in there and taking out the finished compost. That skips at least two steps over the backyard variety, which I never actually get around to using.

Also, it takes meat and other things that can't be safely composted in your backyard composter, because it's at a higher temperature. Having it in your kitchen reduces the likelihood of local critters getting into it, too.

Wow, that's really cool. I have no need for such an item, though. If I someday have an actual house that allows me to garden, I'd seriously consider getting one.
