I hitched a ride downtown with the semi-retired teacher who is keeping our library in decent condition, and went to Miller's Shoe Store to buy myself some shoes.

I intended to buy one pair of sandals for sure - something comfy, reasonably stylish, and good to walk in for long periods of time. I intended also to look into the possibility of a good pair of athletic shoes.

I came away with two pair - sandals, not quite what I had in mind but the closest I could get to it in my width, and cross-trainers, that give me more arch support than I've ever had in any pair of shoes. I think I'll be taking the insoles from those and putting them in my everyday shoes. It was amazing what a difference they made.

I have a receipt that reads, "Orthotic-friendly shoes," with no date on it, in case I get orthotics at some point soon. I just fill in the date and my benefits plan will reimburse me the price of the shoes.

I went overbudget by forty dollars, after the gift certificate. That's not good. For the first time in my life, I will get through the summer with some style and no pain. That's very, very good. And, no more shinsplints! That's heavenly.

So I'm happy.

All of this is true. I have about four skirts in my closet that fit me and would look great - with the right shoes. Now I have a pair that actually work with them, so I can wear them.

So many kids told me today how pretty I looked. Most of them even meant it. :) This is the first time they've ever seen me in a skirt.
