I hitched a ride downtown with the semi-retired teacher who is keeping our library in decent condition, and went to Miller's Shoe Store to buy myself some shoes.
I intended to buy one pair of sandals for sure - something comfy, reasonably stylish, and good to walk in for long periods of time. I intended also to look into the possibility of a good pair of athletic shoes.
I came away with two pair - sandals, not quite what I had in mind but the closest I could get to it in my width, and cross-trainers, that give me more arch support than I've ever had in any pair of shoes. I think I'll be taking the insoles from those and putting them in my everyday shoes. It was amazing what a difference they made.
I have a receipt that reads, "Orthotic-friendly shoes," with no date on it, in case I get orthotics at some point soon. I just fill in the date and my benefits plan will reimburse me the price of the shoes.
I went overbudget by forty dollars, after the gift certificate. That's not good. For the first time in my life, I will get through the summer with some style and no pain. That's very, very good. And, no more shinsplints! That's heavenly.
So I'm happy.

Date: 2005-04-21 03:32 pm (UTC)1) The shoes will last, because they're well-made, so you may wind up saving money in the long run (think of it this way: how many pairs of shoes have you bought and then had to stop wearing because they fell apart or your feet hurt?).
2) You will be happier because your feet will be happy.
3) You'll work out more because you have better workout shoes.
4) You'll wear your dressier stuff more because you have summery shoes -- thus getting more wear out of your wardrobe.
In short, you went a bit overbudget, but in the long run, I'm betting it will have been worth it. Enjoy them and the goodness they bring, and think of it as an investment in yourself! *hug* *shoe envy*
