Wow. Very informative link. Thanks for posting it. It might be worth posting on [livejournal.com profile] dark_christian or sending direct to [livejournal.com profile] dogemperor, too.

The only thing that might work is losing customers. I know I'm exloring my options for syndication. In other words, I like the social networking aspect of LJ, but I don't want my journal on a server I don't control. Not after this.

I don't have a problem with the ad service since I use it, but they should have announced the switch and explained hte bottom lime. Wouldn't have made some vocal people happy, but most of us would grumpily understand.

I've got a couple friends switching to LostJournal, and I may head over there. I also have an account on Insane Journal, but the formatting there bugs me a bit.

It's very true that they may simply ignore the boycott, but I don't see that a boycott would do any harm. On the off-chance that it causes SUP to actually look into the problem, I say it's worth trying.

Yeah, I'm participating in the boycott because it's really easy, and I should spend less time on the internet anyway.

Unfortunately, all I think the boycott will accomplish is to cut the cost of running LJ for a day. Less bandwidth, less stress on the servers, etc.

I think it will ultimately be fruitless.

Russian shop owners were always the worst -- they did NOT WANT AMERICAN MONEY. Not from Americans. They would turn your back to you, scorn you, mock you. (In Brooklyn I mean.) All other groups, you'd go to their ethnic shops, it would be great, fun, whatever. Russians? You could drop dead, they wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire or however it goes.

That's why, in addition to not posting, I deleted a number of communities. I already moved my main blog elsewhere. I will stay here for friends and communities for now. But I feel better at least dumping some of my accounts.

It's not necessarily an entitlement issue to expect decent service out of a company that I continue to throw money at every year for a paid account.

Because, when you're spending money on something, it's reasonable to expect good service - at least, that's the Western way of doing business. When I woke up this morning to discover my phone had no dial tone, I called my cable company on my cell. If the service rep at the other end had been rude to me, I would have put in a complaint further up the company hierarchy, because you just aren't rude to paying customers - it's bad business. People expected a similar level of service out of LJ, and they're not getting it - in fact certain groups are being pushed out the door none-too-gently, and people are not being kept abreast of changes that affect them. It's bad customer service and bad business.
