Uh-oh.

We are currently without heat. The circuit board in our eighteen-month-old furnace has blown, and the repair person (who was here within the hour) said that he doesn't have any in stock. So he's going to order one. It will be delivered to our mail box tomorrow or Tuesday, and then we call to make an appointment to have it installed, hopefully that same day.

Piet has headed out to see if Zellers or Lowes is still open, so he can purchase a space heater. We have one, and we can borrow one from the in-laws, but one for each bedroom is a bare minimum overnight. If any local folks have one they can lend us for a couple of days, we'd be grateful. It's going to get pretty chilly around here - the temperature outside isn't supposed to go higher than seven degrees celcius all week. (Though I should be grateful that it will at least be above freezing most days!)

I have a feeling I'm not taking a sick day tomorrow. I have no interest in being a Velvicicle.

EDIT: Piet bought two small ones at Zellers and borrowed a big one from his parents, so we're okay for tonight, I think.

Aw crap...

No space heaters (and most of a continent away) sadly. Good luck keeping warm!

At times like this, I regret that we never went in for the family-bed co-sleeping thing.

I have one you can borrow...it's one of those little cube thingys, but it heats up my room right quick-like. It's yours if you want it.

Piet found two at Zellers, so we're okay for now, but if that changes, we'll let you know. Thanks for the offer!

Thanks! We have three little ones, and one larger one from my folks, so we should be able to manage. :) We'll see how tonight goes, though.

Certainly!

We should have you over at some point, regardless of space heater delivery.

I wish I lived closer.

I know Piet bought some at Zellers but we have honestly a TON because we have baseboard heat here and its sooo expensive, we have 3 radiator heaters, 3 forced air heaters and 4 plug in baseboard type heaters.

We obviously dont use all of them lol

Whoa. That is miserable.

On the other hand, space heaters can be pretty great. I have one radiator in my 285-square-foot basement apartment, so I doubt that it would be warmer than about 10 or 15 degrees without extra heating--and I prefer it closer to 25. However, I have one little space heater that really does a fantastic job keeping the place warm.

And I'm amused by "velvicicle".

If it's too cold for the podlings, I could take Elizabeth for a couple nights.

I giggled about you being a Velvicicle.

The term "Velvicicle" made me laugh like you wouldn't believe. I get the mental image of you all frozen and stuff, as one would assume, but something about the term itself also sounds vaguely...dirty. ^o^

But dirty in the nicest possible way, of course! :)
