Theoretically, that stuff was supposed to help me sleep.

In actual practice, though, it kept me up (no more than dozing, that is) until nearly 2:00 a.m. Then, just as I was getting tired again, the sore throat came back, because the medicine had worn off.

It's a good thing I'd already planned to be home sick today.

Neo-Citran contains a decongestant, which can stimulate you and keep you up at night. It also contains a antihistamine, which makes you drowsy. Hence, the product being advertised at a bedtime medication.

The joys of having a pharmacist on my friends list! I have some really useful friends. . . :)

So, any suggestions about what will make my throat feel better without keeping me awake? I'm not really congested through the sinuses, just a really heavy chest and vocal chords with no room to vibrate.

For your throat and vocal chords, if you don't have stomach problems, I would suggest ibuprofen 200mg 1 to 2 tabs up to three times daily. Otherwise, Tylenol Extra Strength (500mg) 1 to 2 tabs every 4 to 6 hours up to a total of 8 tablets in 24 hours. A nice Halls lozenge or Fisherman's Friend can be soothing as well.

For your chest, assuming your not experiencing shortness of breath, a good expectorant can help loosen things up. Robitussin Plain (no DM) Extra Strength will do a good job for that. Drink lots of water and other non-caffeinated fluids to helps loosen things up.

I think you mentioned some laryngitis. This is irritation and inflammation of the vocal chords. Rest of the voice is the only real way to make it better. No singing for a couple days and minimal talking will help things along.

Keep in mind that these are only suggestions as I don't have your full list of medications you are taking or all your allergies.

If you need more information, call me at work FOUR-ONE-SIX NINE-SEVEN-NINE ZERO-SEVEN-SEVEN-ZERO.

Get better otherwise you'll be no fun at [livejournal.com profile] thebitterguy's party. :)

Yay! I have a professional's opinion that I shouldn't be going to work today! It's impossible to get through a day in front of a class without straining the voice, therefore, I shouldn't teach until my voice is better. Thanks. :)

I think I have all of those things you mentioned around her somewhere. Otherwise, I'll get Piet to drop me at the pharmacy on his way to work. It's not a long walk back.

It's a good thing I'm not at school today. It would be almost impossible to avoid a practice for Monday's Christmas assembly, and that would mean singing.

I sent two kids to the office yesterday for doing things that made me yell, thereby hurting my voice. :) They were suitably cowed.

Man, you are like gold. I know you're trying to get out of pharmacy, but my hat's off to you for coming through here. :)

*blushes*

Cold Medication Use is pretty standard knowledge for a pharmacist, especially this time of year.

I like helping people. I just never have time to do it properly and a lot people are kind of rude or in a hurry.

Being able to go to the bathroom when I want would be a bonus too...
