I just got the proof copy of my book in the mail. I'm so excited!!!!!!!!

It's one of only two or three copies of this edition - it's got a different cover from the copy that will be for sale, has a very interesting and entirely fictitious author bio, the picture from the icon above as the picture of the author, and it's absolutely beautiful and I love it and I'm thrilled with it and I should be ashamed of this run-on sentence and I DON'T CARE because I'm EXCITED!!!!

I just realized that I didn't get around to adding you the last time I set out to do so - something sidetracked me and I forgot. The oversight has been rectified. :)

I knew you were working on a book, but I missed the details. What's the title? Who'd you sell it to? What's it about?

The title is "Dream-Carver", and the publisher is Sanguine Inc, because the novel is based on one of their role-playing games (Ironclaw, to be precise.) This book has been finished for about two years now. The one you've heard me talk about it probably the as-yet-untitled Dolphin Book.

It's a furry fantasy (is it necessary to use both of those descriptors, or is fantasy included in the concept of furry?) pirate adventure novel, wherein a mismatched crew of ne'er-do-wells chases long-lost pirate treasure and discovers redemption in the process.

Hmm, I need a better one-line synopsis. That's a place to start, anyhow. :)

When I have a website available on which to order it, I will be certain to let everyone know. Probably multiple times.

Well, for what it's worth, I'd say that the two are separate. Much of my own work is furry, but setting is more in vein with contemporary/light sci-fi, so I'd hesitate to call any of it 'fantasy,' per se.

I will most certainly be posting the link to the website where it can be purchased. There are over a hundred people on my friends list - if even half of them buy a copy, I'll be happy.

Not half as thrilled as I am to be the author in question. :)

A fairly large percentage of my friends list is married to another portion of my friends list, so a sales figure of 50 books probably means more like 70 friends will read it.

Actually, there is at least one typo - my last name should have a small v, not a capital - the H is a capital. That's all I've caught so far.

Hello

First, congratulations on the book! That's awesome!

Second...er...well, you don't know me at all...though I am a very very close and good friend of Ani's. I have some questions about your book...most directly, how did you go about getting published? And what genre is your book in? I'm curious, as I have no idea how to go about publishing the things I've been writing.

Thanks!

And again, congratulations!

Frank

I'm afraid this isn't going to be much help, actually. The book is a fantasy novel based on a furry role-playing game called Ironclaw. My husband did a fair amount of writing for the game, and was play-testing a new supplement with that campaign. Since the book was set in the Ironclaw world, the publisher/author of Ironclaw, [livejournal.com profile] normanrafferty, whose comment is just above yours, owns the rights to the setting of my book. So I sent him the finished book, he liked it, and is publishing it. It's an inside deal from start to finish, which isn't to say the book isn't good - it is - just that I didn't have to work very hard at pitching it to publishers.

For advice on how to sell a book, check out [livejournal.com profile] mizkit. She wrote an entry a while back, though I can't find it in my bookmarks for some reason, abut how to get published. Hopefully it's in her memories.
