For those of you who spent time here in the last few days, you will be happy to know that Elizabeth is suffering from a head cold which caused an ear and throat infection, leading to the vomiting and general misery of the past few days. If you can fight off a cold, you're not catching anything from her.

Elizabeth has had a fever off and on for a few days now. Babies this age get fevers for many reasons, including something as innocuous as a new tooth, so I didn't worry about it. She was acting pretty normal, overall.

Last night, she spiked a fever at one o'clock and woke up. The little sticky underarm thermometer read 38.7, and it's usually off the real temperature by about .5 of a degree. I began to get worried.

My little girl, who normally sleeps the night through with maybe twenty minutes in the night when she's up, was up from one a.m. until four. Most of that time, she was screaming and burning up. We dosed her up with Infant Motrin and walked the floor with her, but none of us got nearly enough sleep. When she woke up this morning, her fever read 39.1, and I called the doctor immediately.

My doctor, luckily, has an on-call service on the weekends. (The medical clinic we go to was the one Romanow cited as the best example of a multi-service family medicine setup in the country.) Well, we went in to see the doctor this afternoon, and she diagnosed an ear infection. Hence, strawberry-flavoured Amoxicillin is now taking up residence in our fridge. She loves the stuff. One teaspoon at a time has her asking for more. I just hope it starts to do its job before bedtime.

Anyhow, I'm knackered, Piet's knackered, the baby's currently quite energetic, and we're all looking forward to more sleep tonight. I'm going to spend an hour or so tonight preparing for the (quite likely) necessity of being away tomorrow.

And through all this, mostly while she was being cuddly and listless this morning in front of the T.V., I wrote another thousand words. If only I could get up as much energy for my report card comments. . .

Bother- a recovering husband and a sick baby. The only thing worse than that is being ill yourself at the same time. On top of that, you have all that work due for school. You have my sympathies, and I hope Piet and your wee one feel better soon.

When they do, schedule some alone time for you. =)

Actually, I'm taking tomorrow off to get some sleep and some of the marking done that I didn't do today. I'll have to go in for half an hour before school to get set up for the supply, but then I can come home and go back to bed.

Thanks. I'm looking forward to reading your writing!

Oh, Piet says Riddocksdawn is open, so you can join anytime. I'm at about 17 000 words, now. :)
