Fact is, this is an already approved drug, and a doctor can look at this, evaluate the risks, and give it for off-label use. Drug trials may be irrelevant in such a scenario.

I think they'll have no trouble finding volunteers for human trials, which is the point they're at, so it shouldn't be too hard to get government or charitable funding for it. The Canadian Cancer Society often funds studies like that, in whole or in part, and because the drug is cheap, it will be relatively inexpensive to do the trials, too.
