They're the parents of sleepless infants.

I saw every single hour of the clock from midnight onwards. Most of the time, it took a few minutes of the baby talking to herself before I got up to see what was going on. At 4:15, I decided to try to buy myself a few hours of sleep with some infant tylenol, since Elizabeth doesn't have school this morning and if it was successful, we might all be able to sleep until eight o'clock. No such luck - she was awake again at 4:45 and at 6-something. I got up to her at 6:35, to find a very, very full diaper and a very, very smiley, wide-eyed boo. I brought her downstairs to change her and she's sitting on my lap, pulling at the buttons on my pyjama shirt with one hand while investigating the snaps on her sleeper with the other. Did I mention she's a really smart kid?

I'm going to call Oma in half an hour and beg her to come over for a couple of hours. As of now, I can no longer cope. Several days of sleeplessness are catching up with me.

Wow, you mean we aren't alone? There are others just like us? Ah, the beauty of the internet, where zombies come to gather.

Arthur's been sleeping rather poorly lately, for whatever reason. Jennifer and I alternated with him last night but neither one of us seemed to have much luck getting him back to sleep quickly or for very long.

Strangely, it doesn't seem to have any appreciable effect on his energy. He's currently ransacking the office, with the aid of his portable step. But I have coffee and a dog.

Claire had a two-and-a-half hour nap yesterday morning, at a time when half an hour is usually a stretch. Thinking she was about to wake up, I raced upstairs for a shower, got a load of laundry in, fiddled around online, and got progressively more and more annoyed at the baby who just kept on sleeping when I couldn't join her. I just knew that if I laid down to try to get some sleep myself, she'd immediately sense that and wake up as soon as I hit the deepest part of my sleep cycle, thereby leaving me even more tired than before.

Irony: she slept like a log for four hours - from eight until midnight - but of course, I only slept for three of those hours myself.

Hey, before you drop.

If you can still take orders let me know, some co-workers are very interested. But that will mean that you will have to type out names and prices, unless there is a website...

There is - www.macmillans.ca. I think I could bring it in as late as Monday, but I'm honestly not sure. If I get as far as calling before I collapse, I'll let you know.

Worst feeling, the times in my life where I ever felt despondent or suicidal or homicidal were when I didn't get nearly enough sleep.

Hope you are getting rest right now.

Oh how I relate. And Max is old enough to "know" better.
Thankfully I have had around 6 hours each of the last couple nights. There's a light at the end of the tunnel, dear. And it's probably not from an oncoming train.

I am available tonight and/or whenever this weekend to provide coping therapy, in terms of child wrangling, company, cooking partner, or whatever combination you can come up with :)

She did, and I'm much better now - though formula in tea is an excellent reason to go to the store in the rain.
