It has been a very productive day.

I wrote two paragraphs on the bus this morning, a bit more at morning break (for those not on a balanced-day schedule, that's code for "lunch that starts at 10:15") and a bit more, just to finish up, while my kids were doing silent reading. The scene flowed pretty well, but I'm still playing with ideas for the meeting between the Baron and Annarisse. I'm thinking perhaps the Baron is trying to set sail before Annarisse tracks him down, since he doesn't want to be followed by a spy for his mother for his whole adult life. So she'll get redirected to a really seedy inn near the docks, find the Baron already quite mellow from the most expensive beer the place serves, and get the worst possible first impression. I seem to remember [livejournal.com profile] redstorm doing a very good imitation of a drunk nobleman stumbling over his tail two years ago at our first adventure. :)

When I got home, Elizabeth was out with Oma and Aunty Krista, so I had the afternoon to myself until six o'clock. I spent it typing up what I'd written, posting, reading, and playing one very disasterous game of Settlers of Catan online. I seem to be having no luck with the rolls in that game lately. Still, I'm meeting interesting people. I've even started emailing one of them - a teacher in Sweden. So far we've talked shop and discussed exchanging baby pictures. (His daughter is 10 months old.) I've invited him to livejournal - hi, Jens! We've also discussed the American presidential slog at some length, during a settlers game which I believe he won. I had to correct a misconception - he thought I was American. (I must remember to write a post about European conceptions of nationality at some point. . . I have some good stories.)

I worked out, somewhat harder than usual, letting my heart rate get to the upper end of my safe zone. It felt really good. For some reason that I cannot fathom, I've been losing a bit of weight over the last week or so. It was Thanksgiving!!! I ate pie, and extra-sweet sweet potato, and overly large helpings of fat and carbs at every meal!! Still, I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. If I'm only getting to Curves twice a week, at least I'm making it count.

Good-night, friends. Let's hope everyone's babies and other life issues let them sleep tonight. Heaven knows I, for one, have earned it.

Your metabolism's probably changing the more you work out and the more weight you lose -- so a little carby fatty goodness here and there shouldn't hurt. :) It's very cool that you're continuing to do so well with it! And good that you're getting some writing in. Too bad about the game, but I'm betting you'll kick some Settler fanny next time. :)

As for Europeans and the whole "American" thing, I know I've probably talked about this before, but I know the problem all too well. I had to correct my Scottish relatives when they called me "American" and referred to "America" -- the biggest problem is, they call North America "America", which is a little baffling, because there isn't a real equivalent for them, so I'm not sure why they would use the term that way. Scots live in Britain/the United Kingdom, but it seems they are rarely even called British -- except in times of war, nobody in my family calls themself British. Brits (or Swedes, or whoever) don't get lumped in as a culture with Europeans, either... yet. I think the best way to explain it is that it's like calling all Scandinavians Danes, or all Brits English. Obviously that's not true -- and it should be just as obvious that Canadians aren't American (stupid Amerigo Vespucci! we should still be called Vinland!). My guess is, because they don't get a lot of exposure to Canadian news over there, but tons of news about America, it's even easier to lump us in with our neighbours to the south.

It's a theory, anyway. *shrug*

The post relating to this theory will be forthcoming very soon. :)

You're right about the metabolism. THe thing is, I still weigh a bit more than I did at the end of my diet in August - just not as much as I did last week. I'm hoping to keep it up, but my eating schedule is nearly as wonky as my exercise schedule, so I'm not sure if I'll manage it. I haven't been watching carbs or anything else for the last few weeks. I just don't have the time for it.

The really annoying thing about online Settlers is that I probably won't play too often, now that I'm spending my evening hour writing a novel!
