[livejournal.com profile] siobhan63 found this on Odd Thoughts' blog:

The British are really feeling the pinch in relation to recent bombings, and have again raised their security level, this time from “Miffed” to “Somewhat Annoyed.” Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to “Irritated” or even “A Little Bit Cross.” Londoners have not been “A Little Bit Cross” since the Blitz in 1940, when tea supplies very nearly ran out. Also, terrorists have been re-categorized from “Tiresome” to “Bloody Nuisance.” The last time the Brits issued a “Bloody Nuisance” warning level was when someone started the Great Fire of London in 1666.

Elsewhere in Europe, threats have not yet been so serious. Nevertheless the French Government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from “Hide” to “Run” (the only two higher levels in France are “Surrender” and “Collaborate.”). This rise was precipitated by a recent small fire that destroyed France’s white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country’s military capability.

Italy is also on a heightened level of alert, and has increased its security level from “Shout Excitedly and Gesticulate” to “Start Elaborate Military Posturing.” Two more levels remain: “Ineffective Combat Operations” and “Change Sides Immediately.”

Meanwhile the Germans decided to increase their alert state straight from “Disdainful Arrogance” to “Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs” (thus missing out the intermediate level of “Shouting Rudely at Foreigners”), a security status they seem to use whenever they can get an excuse. However they still have two higher levels: “Invade Poland”, and “Lose.”

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on vacation as usual, and the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

Maybe you had, but my brain isn't setting off "heard this before" bells.

I think it's the "French Surrendering" joke and the "German Goosestepping" joke that I've heard before.

Denis Miller used to make these jokes all the time on SNL. Then he turned into a real right-wing nutjob.

Totally unrelated to your post, but I tried emailing this to your hotmail account and it got bounced back to me. This was posted on the "pregnant" community I'm part of and it made me think of you and your distress over both your first and subsequent c-section.

Oh, that says it exactly right. That explains why I fought so hard for my VBAC and then gave it up anyway.

I don't mind knowing that I loved my babies enough to go under the knife for them. I do mind knowing that I wasn't given the facts by the medical community to avoid it the first time, and the second time I wasn't willing to suffer the added risks. I mind very much that my practitioners didn't do all in their power to secure me a natural birth the first time, thereby improving my chances for one the second time. I very much mind the medicalization of birth, and the intense trauma of it.

Thanks for sending me that.

Oh, the email address is the same name at gmail instead of hotmail.

Ahahaha... yes, if I'd paid more attention, I would have realised that was your MSN name, not your email address. :-D

Are you on MSN much? And if so, you interested in another contact? :-)

My MSN opens immediately when I turn the computer on, so I've often available, and I'd love another contact. :)

Dittos from me. So glad to read that. With c-section rates at between 22-25%,I think these feelings are far more common than most realize..and that's sad. Both sad that the rates are so high, and sad that so many women have to go through those feelings. :(

I am so hoping to have vbac next time. I know there are things I can do to help raise the possibilities...but also that much of it is out of my control.
Sigh.

Medically speaking, it was probably a good thing that I went for the c-section this time - my chances of a rupture were somewhat higher than most. And I went into the pregnancy knowing it was quite likely, so this one doesn't upset me, but I think on some level I'll always be angry at how Elizabeth was born.

I tried to convince my sister to go with a midwife. She took her doctor's advice and went to an ob/gyn instead. I hope it doesn't come back to haunt her.

My plans for saturday include going to the farmers market first thing and hoping you show up. Rod has the van because he has to work so I am busing it back and forth. Let me know what I have to do or if you just want me to toss you money later instead since I WILL have the kids in tow.

Actually, I was planning on hitting the market behind Cantre Mall that operates on Saturdays. There's no overhead so it's cheaper, and the food was generally picked the day before. Best of all, you can walk to it. :) I'll have the car, so we can get the food back to your place.

If I haven't heard from you in half an hour, I'll give you a call; it's almost eight now.
