The Snowman Story

Elizabeth has a favourite movie. It's called The Snowman, or, in Elizabethspeak, "noman." She is quite capable of telling you the main events of this movie, complete with musical accompaniment. First, there's a snowman. "Noman." Then, the snowman flies. "Airpane." Then, Santa Claus arrives and flies with the snowman. "Opa airpane." Then she will dance around the room, with her arms out, humming the first two bars of the pretty, haunting theme song.

Oma has watched this movie ten times since Monday, at Elizabeth's constant request. I'm thinking of giving her a bonus.

The Caillou Story

Elizabeth has a Caillou book called "Caillou says no." Each page has a few sentences where the mother offers Caillou some object or opportunity, and at the bottom of every page, Caillou refuses.

Elizabeth was reading this book on Thursday morning when I called home. (The day after giving my kids a lecture about putting their homework right back in their bags as they finished, I forgot my planning book at home.) She looked at the first page, moving her finger back and forth across the page, saying, "Babagabada, babdadada. . .", etc, etc, for about two sentences' worth of baby talk. Then, she got to the bottom of the words and said, "No!"

Then she turned her attention to the facing page and repeated the process. "Babababgagadada. . . No!"

Then she turned the page (or rather, several at once) and did it again.

I have a pre-literate baby who can't even talk yet.

Yes, the cuteness overloads.

No need to underscore between words in a cut, though.

It pleases me to hear that Elizabeth loves The Snowman. That book and movie are favourites of mine ever since I saw the movie in grade school. I love the theme for it - I even considered it for wedding music!
However, I must warn you....I think The Snowman might have been the catalyst for my fascination with snowmen. Don't be too scared - I only only have about 10 boxes full!! :)

I am cracking up picturing Opa as an airplane!

As collectibles, I can handle them. They're better than, for example, pet rocks, in that they are easy to display other than the child's room.

If you're still looking at Christmas presents. . . :)
