The Children are Coming!
Aug. 30th, 2004 07:10 amI had a dream last night. This usually happens when I'm not sleeping too deeply; when there are no butterflies dancing in my tummy, I sleep like the dead. Last night was not one of those nights, so I remember my dream. I think it etched itself on the back of my retina.
I was in my new classroom. Some of the details were fuzzy, but some were crystal clear. The stacks of books which were there when I left in June had multiplied over the summer, and now reached the ceiling, which is very high in this school. All the books which had been neatly on shelves had multiplied too, so that they were bursting off the shelves. Every horizontal surface contained a huge stack of book. It reminded me a bit of my living room.
I started arranging desks, which of course made all the books fall down. The desks ran away and stood in a corner, giggling with Elizabeth's voice. (That was far and away the creepiest thing.) So I'm standing in this pile of books, unable to move because they come up to my waist, looking at the giggling desks, and the principal comes through, running and waving her arms, yelling, "The children are coming! The Children are coming!" Anyone remember that old African Lion Safari commercial? Well, it was exactly like that. I expected to hear, but didn't, a hippo type voice saying, "And we're still in the tub!"
Now to get my hair dried, some of my nice (but not too nice) clothes on, and my baby off to Oma's house. I'm a working mom again.
