So much to do, so little car time
Aug. 20th, 2004 01:43 pmWell, with
pyat away until Monday, Elizabeth and I are in the very rare condition of being mobile - more than stroller, feet, and buses would normally allow, that is. Yesterday we went to Zellers, and today we're going to an actual mall. We've been to one of these I think twice this summer, so I'm really looking forward to it. I dug up some mad money from a secret spot (not my underwear drawer) so I'm going to buy one or two more work tops for fall.
I had then made arrangements with my sister to leave the baby with Oma, and take her and myself out for dinner and a chick flick. (Her relationship is still at the point where her boyfriend's willing to see these, but it's more fun with girls. That's why they're called chick flicks.) I arranged this all with Oma, who decided that seeing Elizabeth in the evening meant she didn't need to see her in the morning after all as had been planned. Then I called my sister to confirm and decide on a flick.
She double-booked. She can still go shopping with us this afternoon, but the movie is out.
Now I'm stuck with a free evening, complete with babysitter, and no clear plans. This is unprecedented.
So I called Marnie of the shiny new doctorate and asked if she and her husband were up for a game of Settlers. I haven't heard back from them yet. I don't know what I'll do if they say no, but I think the lure of gaming, even board gaming, will call Marnie after so long an absence from the table. (She's been obsessing about her defense for so long, we haven't played in more than a month.)
Wish me luck finding somewhere to go tonight!
Oh, for the days of drop-of-the-hat planning with in-town friends! (sigh)
