I've decided it's time to take on some piano students again. Four or so beginners, half an hour each, at a reasonable rate, brings in $50 a week which we really need. I intend to have some money put away next summer so we don't find ourselves broke at the end of July again, as we have every year since I started teaching.

The problem here isn't really with the rate of pay I receive, but rather with the pay schedule. I get a paycheque the end of the first week of school, 8% of annual salary. THen I get 8% per month, on or about the 25th. On the 25th of June, I get 20%, and then nothing until September. The problem is that we go nuts in June, buying everything we've put off all year, and generally have no money at all left by halfway through July. It's ridiculous, and our union local has tried to have it changed to a bi-weekly schedule like any normal company, but the board isn't having any, so we're stuck with this. I would be happier if it were every month on the 25th, which would involve one paycheque more than we're getting right now, but no, that's too much trouble. (sigh)

Oh, well. It's a reason to have a good GIC in place.

That is terrible.

Feh.

If we lived closer, I'd sign Cole up for lessons. (Small consolation that, I know.)

Well, it shouldn't be that difficult to find four beginners in this neighbourhood. I live across the street from an elementary school, after all. I'm going to advertise with a flyer at a second hand shop for kids which is around the corner. Bonnie, the proprietor, already said that was fine. I even know another lady who's moving into the area, who teaches advanced students and will be looking for students in the fall. I can send overflow - if there is any - to her.
