1. anthropomorphism:
   The process of assigning human characteristics to animals. For me, specifically, dolphins. I've got 50 000 words of that particular type of anthropomorphism.
2. cole porter:
   It started with the Delovely soundtrack at Christmas last year, and spiralled quickly out of control from there. Thanks, summerfields, jinzi and inner_linbo!
3. education:
   I'm a teacher. 'Nuff said.
4. french:
   I speak it. I teach it. I'm fascinated by the etymology of it and its relationships to other languages, especially English. Overall, this is one of my biggest claims to geekdom.
5. jazz music:
   Hmm. Should perhaps update this one out of existence. It's marginally true, but I know very little about it - except for the Cole Porter branch of it.
6. musicals:
   Phantom, Les Mis, South Pacific, Oliver, Wizard of Oz, and just about anything that has a cool waltz in it. I don't like the movies/plays themselves as much as the songs from them.
7. religion:
   Christianity, and its interplay with other stuff. I could go on all day about this one.
8. storytelling:
   Heck, I'm an author waiting for a publishing company to make that official. Storytelling is a part of the job. Also, the idea of a game master whose real job is to guide a story - that fascinates me.
9. toddlers:
   One in particular, but all of them come in for some of this. They're a fascinating breed.
10. writing fantasy:
    Already mentioned. Specifically, anthropomorphic fantasy.

As far as jazz goes, it definitely sounds like what you'd like is more conventional, less atonal. Duke Ellington is always a good introduction to getting into stuff with more instrumentals and less vocals if that's something you'd be interested in.
