Hugs, crystal bowls, and fond farewells

We had our final "staff meeting" at the home of one of the teachers this afternoon. She's got a great deck and a pool which was about the temperature of Elizabeth's bath water this afternoon. (BTW, most PD days, we do actually work - but the end of the year is usually an exception.) Anyway, they gave me a nice little speech from a teacher I never got along with too well, and a nice crystal salad bowl as a going-away present. Elizabeth was clingy but quiet in the pool (her first time, other than wading pools) and a good time was had by all. I only cried a bit near the end, when saying good-bye to the EA I worked with my first year, who supported me through the first installment of hell on earth. Wonderful, nuturing lady.
This morning I was at the new school. So far, I'm liking what I see. I couldn't get much done in my room, since the furniture I will have is currently still in the portable. I have a huge job ahead of me at the end of August, but it will be fun sifting through those two portables outside to find bookcases, a divider or two, two computers that I know are mine, etc., etc. I've decided I'm absolutely going to find the money to take my Music Part I course in the fall. Sadly, it only covers primary music, and I'll be teaching junior music with recorders. Still, it's one more thing on my resume and one more step towards that highest pay category. (I only need two more courses to get to A4, which represents a pay raise of about $3000 per year.)
All in all, a good end to a bad term.
