The plan was to convince her that she had to stay in her room during sleep time, figuring that eventually she'd conk out if she were on her bed.

Well, the hold-the-door-almost-shut thing went okay. She stopped tugging on it, did NOT throw a tantrum, and snuggled up on her bed with a book.

That was fifteen minutes ago. She's been reading to herself and breaking into her occasional renditions of the Alphabet Song, ever since.

Elizabeth, fais dodo. Maman en a besoin d'un, aussi.

I was the same way when I was little. My father would always tell me to just stay in bed because lying quietly in bed was almost as good as sleep.

So I would. Until 2 or 3am :P

I got the "just lay there, it's like sleep" thing from my parents too. They admitted when I was older that they really needed their downtime too, and as long as I was laying in bed, that was good enough for them :) The idea was that I'd get bored enough laying there that I'd just fall asleep. Not with an active imagination and a fear of the dark I wasn't! :)

Heh... when I was really little, my mum used to get up in the morning, get me dressed and fed, put me down on the livingroom floor with toys, lie down beside me and then fall back asleep again. I'd play quietly with my toys until it was time to be fed again.

My mum says I was the most amazing infant... not so sure about my toddler stage. I know I could dress myself at 2, but by that point she'd had my sister and since my sister broke her collar-bone on the way out (she, being enthusiastic about everything she does, was in something of a rush to be born) she was screaming for the first 6 weeks of her life. I think that may have superceded any memory my mother has of how much/little of a hassle I was as a tot.

The no tantrum makes it easier at least. If she's fighting sleep time at night and not taking her nap in the afternoon, might she be ready for a later/shorter nap time? I was only a little older than Elizabeth when I decided I wasn't going to take naps anymore. My mom wasn't impressed :)

I'm praying that's not what's happening here.

Babelfish insists on informing me that you're commanding your child to "make dodo." Please tell me the correct translation, as my hyperactive imagination is now creating far too many very silly scenarios to potentially explain this...?! ;)

The loose but accurate translation is, "Go beddy-bye." That's how the phrase is used, anyhow.

Oh, good -- what a relief. I far prefer that to mental images of fat flightless birds toddling around flapping their wings and squawking while they're being chased by dedicated moms determined to tuck them into their nests for a nap! :)

*sigh*

They need OFF switches, don't they?

(And we do too, sometimes.)

Elizabeth figured out how to use the automatic button for the windows and door locks on the car today. I have no doubt she'd figure out any off switch on her own person, pronto.
