I promise to reveal the entire secret to my confused American friends - but not yet. *insert maniacal laughter here*

Oh, I know this one!

I have stood here before in the pouring rain
With the world turning circles running 'round my brain
I guess I'm always hoping that you'll end this reign
But it's my destiny to be the king of Spain...

...right?

Nope. Nice try, though.

No, no, you've got it all wrong! It goes:

Thirty years in the same location I have stayed,
There I am, right next door to Willy's Fun Arcade.
I got tough competition but I'm not afraid,
'Cause it's my destiny to be the King of Suede.

You've both got it wrong, but at least it's entertaining. :)

I always thought the Fru was popular in the Holy Republic.

Apparently not. Not a single American has figured it out yet. :)

The maddening thing to me is that I think I've heard this thing before somewhere, but I can't for the life of me remember where. I will probably kick myself when [livejournal.com profile] velvetpage reveals the truth.

It's possible. It's something older, so that may be why you can't recall it.

No, but that's the only "King of Spain" song I know.

Wait, am I inadvertantly Canadian?

Uh-oh. I hope I didn't ruin the answer for anyone else!

I'm going to look up the lyrics and post them later, anyway. :)

It's so weird, being accidentally right instead of intentionally right.

Er... *guilty look* well, um... yes. I'm not very "up" on modern lyrics. ;)

I may be American, but even so...

Okay, so a few of you know it.

Hey, you're a musician! Of course you get it!

I'm guessing that since you're from the northeast, you even know what a Zamboni is!

Bonus points to any (non-Canadian) that gets THAT reference!

I worked at a factory and a gas station. I am sufficiently blue collar to know what the Habs are. :)

I do know the song, have even seen it performed on occasion. Actually I downloaded it shortly after being the first person to respond to yer poll. I even know who the Habs are! Of course . . . I'm Canadian . . . and live with hockey fans . . . and listen to a lot of music . . . but I'm proud of myself anyway :P

It might have been the eighties at some point in the past, but you'll definitely end up stuck in the 90s.
