I've spent a fair chunk of the last two days editing my first novel, adding things here and there to get it ready for a final submission. There wasn't much that needed changing, really - just a few scenes that were a bit thinner than I wanted them to be. I'm about halfway through at this point. There's one scene towards the end that I need to write - I skipped it when I was writing the book and never got back to it, and now I'm out of time. I either have to write the scene, or write the details into other scenes so that I can skip the confrontation itself without losing out on storyline.

My house is starting to get some order to it. Laundry is getting done and toys are somewhat organized. The kitchen's still a mess and my hotspots are threatening to burn the house down, but we're getting there. Tonight is a shop-from-the-freezer night - there are things in there that need to be used up. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that cook-once-a-month thing this weekend. The money for ingredients won't be in the bank until the fifteenth. But we can do it the following weekend.

I had incredible trouble dragging myself out of bed this morning, and I'm just now on my first cup of tea. I think it's going to be a long day.

I think everyone on my friends list is politically active enough to do this anyway, but I'm going to say it regardless.

If you have the right to vote in the midterm elections today, get out and do it. I don't have that right, though what happens south of the border does affect my life and my country. Do not take it for granted - get out and use the right for which so many people over the centuries have fought and died.

The world, as always, is watching. Your actions matter. That's what democracy is about. Do it. Vote.

EDIT: If you have kids who are too young to vote, take them with you. Show them that it is important. That's how we get engaged citizens in the next generation - by example.
