The teacher-appropriate costume is in its Value Village downstairs. It consists of last year's cowled robe, with the hood tucked in; a feather boa in purple and black; a black-and-purple witch's hat; and a purple sparkly broomstick. No makeup - my most important consideration is that when Elizabeth comes to visit, she's not afraid of me. So I'm a purple sparkly fun witch.

Piet carved a Pooh pumpkin, and did a good job of it. Elizabeth enjoyed the process. After I had done most of the cleaning out of the gourd, she told daddy, "I see the graines! You take out the graines and the cheveux, daddy?" I had to explain to daddy that graines meant seeds, and the fibres in the pumpkin looked like hair. :)

This is the first year of my teaching career when no kids have asked where I lived just before Devil's Night. The kids who have plagued this neighbourhood on other Devil's Nights have not been seen in recent months, so our house will probably be fine. The worst that would likely happen would be a few eggs on the car, anyway.

Walnut is no longer Baby C, because, though a girl baby will still be Claire, a boy baby will not be Christian. We're still leaning towards Arthur for a name, though this choice made my sister start madly investigating baby name sites in an attempt to change my mind. We'll see what she comes up with. I've liked many of the suggestions, but many of them also have connotations or connections that make them problematic. We'll see what else we come up with.

It's after nine, and it feels like it's after ten, so it's time for this mommy to head for bed. G'night all, and Happy Halloween!
