Generalities
May. 10th, 2005 07:14 amThere's a PoAC brewing in response to a comment in
georgiaskydiver's journal a few days ago, to the effect that Ontario's education system is doing a very poor job. The commenter declined to argue the point, on the grounds that I was expected to defend a system in which I had a vested interest. Since I was not up for an argument at that point anyway, I didn't pursue one. The comment rankled, however, especially since I don't believe it. I simply don't believe that we were doing a better job thirty years ago, or forty, than we are now. So I'm going to write about it. I may even do some research first, which I don't usually do, even for PoACs. I want some stats - percentages that graduated high school, percentages that sought higher education, percentages that never got past grade eight - that kind of thing. For those on my friends list who have no interest in Ontario's education system, hopefully my findings will shed some light on education all over North America. For those of you who have no interest in education at all - it'll be cut for length anyway. :)
I dug out of a storage bag a pair of capri pants that were on the very edge of wearability last fall - they were too big at the waist. They are no longer too big at the waist. In fact, they fit to perfection. I'm ambivalent about this. On the one hand, every item of clothing that I can wear again this year is an item I don't have to replace. On the other hand, I haven't gained hardly any weight in that time (about four pounds) so how have I managed to acquire some three inches around the waist? It's annoying. Hopefully the other pair of capris from last year will still be too big. They were the same size to begin with, but this pair shrank in the wash and the other pair didn't. In September, that other pair were practically falling off. If I can still wear them now, I'll be very upset - though much more motivated to work out.
page_4, if you read this, let me know if Dad could pick me up from school so we can work out before getting Elizabeth from daycare. Only, no fast food this week. I'm swearing off of McDonald's for the foreseeable future.
And that's all for this morning. I'm off to get some work done. I'll be at an inservice tomorrow morning, so I need to prepare to be away, even though I'll be working. Argh. I hate school-day inservices, especially the ones that only last half a day. I lose both my prep and my lunch, spend an extra hour in preparation to be away and an hour doing clean-up when I get back, all for the sake of learning a program I could probably figure out by reading the manual in July.
