On this lovely Wednesday morning. . .
Apr. 20th, 2005 07:25 amI'm wearing a tee-shirt with a neckline just a tad lower than it should be for school - or rather, a tad lower than I usually wear. But I love this top, and it's going to be warm today, and it was one of my few summery tops that was not seriously wrinkled from winter storage. So I wore it anyway.
Yesterday I wore a top I bought on the weekend. It's a violet floral print with sequins all over it - very sparkly. I bought a skirt to go with it, but have no shoes to wear with the skirt, so yesterday I was wearing it with pants. I swear every single girl in the junior division complimented me on it, and a few of the boys did, too. (Mostly the ones who have been trained by their mothers to compliment women on their appearance - smart ladies, those.) It was a much-needed pick-me-up.
I'm going downtown to my specialty shoe shop to buy myself at least one pair of shoes, possibly two. I need a pair of sandals that a) fit right, b) are comfortable for all-day wear, and c) can be worn with skirts or capris - therefore without stockings or socks. The second pair I need is a pair of athletic shoes. I honestly can't decide which I need more, but if it comes to a choice, I'll probably get the sandals just for the extended-wardrobe factor. My upper spending limit is $230 for both pair. That allows for each pair to be $100 plus tax. Of course, payday is NEXT week. Argh.
On the plus side, I can wear that pretty lilac skirt tomorrow, with any one of three different tops depending on what's clean, with the new sandals.
I'm starting to feel buried under marking, and will need to spend significant time this weekend getting caught up. Math tests are particularly urgent. I also want to spend some time fiddling with teacher schedules and seeing what I can come up with. Schedules are a major headache for everyone, but I want to try my hand at it. I'm generally pretty good at puzzles, and that's all this is. Maybe I should do the sticky-note thing, colour-coded for each teacher? I could have fun with this.
I'm putting the French play on the back burner, giving my kids one or two opportunities per week to practise and spending the rest of the time on a unit about firefighters. The real goal of the unit, besides a review of grade 1 social studies, is to teach household vocabulary and the giving of directions. Some wonderful person (probably my predecessor, Sarah) made up cue cards with vocabulary on them. The only beef I have there is that she taught the infinitive of the verb. I don't want to teach them the word "ouvrir" - it leads to kids saying things like, "Il ouvrir la porte." I want to teach the verb in the form they're going to actually use - the third-person singular, "il" form. Easier for them, easier for me, no extinction factor when they're being taught conjugation later on - what's not to love? And the "il" form is pretty general for most verbs - if you use the "il" form with any pronoun except "nous" and "vous", you'll be correct orally if not in writing. I don't teach "nous" or "vous" either, so that's all good. :)
I'd better go figure out what I'm doing for music.
