Headache

Two and a half months ago, construction was begun on the school across the road from us. It is a huge school. Three storeys, eighty years old. It has received all new ductwork, a new roof, and who knows what else.

It was not done when school started. A lot of teachers at the school were very upset about that. In fact, it still is not done.

I know this because every afternoon, they start work again. They work from just after school ends until 11:00 p.m., at which point the noise they make legally becomes "disturbing the peace". Apparently, though, it is not disturbing the peace to run their very loud machinery until long after many people are making their way to bed. Nor is it disturbing the peace to start up the machinery at 7:00 a.m. and run it until 11:00 p.m., both Saturday and Sunday.

We are less than one hundred metres from the source of this noise. The windows on our bedroom overlook the generator in the school parking lot. As a result, I was unable to sleep this afternoon though I was tired enough to nearly fall face-first in my apple pie at Sunday dinner. I have a huge headache, and spending any time in my own bedroom makes it worse.

I'm wondering if it's time to write a letter to the editor.
