Still from [livejournal.com profile] siobhan63, as was the last one.

Apparently, the Conservative government is quite happy to slash funding to pro-choice groups, including refusing to fund international initiatives of maternal health that include abortion, all while starting an initiative aimed at maternal health around the world. But they're prepared to give $800K to groups that are translating the Bible into various African dialects.

And they still manage to deny that the choices of which agencies to fund is more about ideology than their ability to run their agencies well.

...they keep this up, I'm going to have to stop pretending to be Canadian when I travel.

Ugh, it's like they're taking lessons from us :(

On a more trivial note, WTF is up with Duceppe's accent? He sounds like Nigel the Pelican from Finding Nemo. Or is that a translator because he was addressing Parliament in French-- if so, why did they get an Australian to translate?

That's the translator, and I suppose they hired him because he's qualified and a legal to work in Canada. I found it a bit strange, too, though.

As for Duceppe, I believe he rarely deigns to address parliament in English for political reasons. I wish the guy weren't a separatist - he's the most electable leader in Parliament at the moment.

I know - and how sad is that? Duceppe's really the only one of the 4 leaders i'd actually LIKE to see as PM. I'm sure if they ran candidates in other provinces, they'd win the election.
