I just broke eighty thousand words! I now officially have a novel-length work of fiction sitting on my hard drive! Yay!

I have, at best guess, about 5000 words to add to the stuff I've already written. These are scenes that I skipped at the time because the inspiration wasn't there, descriptions I didn't have enough information to write properly, and additions to make to the descriptions I tried to write anyway. I'm at the last big scenes of the book. This week, my characters will test the diving bell, use it to find the Dreamcarver's underwater tower, fight her, and come up with the massive hordes of treasure that she has amassed. I'm estimating all that will take another ten or fifteen thousand words. So before I get to the conclusion, I'll have reached my goal length of 100 000 words. Of course, that was always just an artificial benchmark. When my students ask how long their story has to be, I tell them, "Until it's done." That's my philosophy with this, too.

I wrote thirty thousand words in six weeks, while holding down a full-time job, battling winter blues, and being a mother and a wife. I even worked out five times in that six-week span. Mind you, Piet has taken on more than his fair share of laundry and other duties, for which I am very grateful.

Wow. Eighty thousand words since the second week of October. I hope every novel I write in my life goes this well.

I think this calls for a week-long writing high. That's what happened when I realized I'd cracked fifty thousand. :) Besides, Piet will have to buckle down to his contracts soon, and my computer access will be curtailed by the financial necessity of letting him bring home some extra bacon.

You're prolific in other areas of art. I'm looking to be done the bulk of the writing by the end of March Break - four weeks from now - or the week before Easter for you non-teacher types. Just to provide a tentative timeline for you. :)
