Stuff to do

And no desire whatsoever to do it.

The computers at school have two different pop-up blockers installed on Internet Explorer. I can disable one of them, but the other program won't even let me turn it off as far as I can tell. This means I can't answer the comments that are sent to my gmail account. I have to log into livejournal and answer them here. What a pain. I mean, I understand the need for a pop-up blocker, but can't they get one that can tell the difference between something the user wants and something that's coming up on its own? This is dumb.

I handed back the math tests. Right at the end of the period, after taking up most of the test, I realized that question #7 was marked out of 4 for most people, out of 6 for about seven kids, and out of 3 for at least one. Now I have to go back, figure out which mark was the right one, and adjust all the others. My gut is telling me that the six was right, which is good because it will bump some marks when I remark that question, but bad because I then have to remark practically every test, and add up the marks again, and assign grades to go with the new marks. In short, that little mistake will cost me about one and a half hours. Argh, argh, and double argh.

I bought yarn last night for the baby afghan to be made for my sister's friend's baby. I asked Elizabeth if I should use the pink or the white, and she pointed to the pink and said, "Bébé! Couver!" I had told her it was for a couverture, a blanket. So I chose the pink. It will have equal amounts of pink, green, blue, and yellow, in four big squares using a double-ended crochet hook. It will be completely reversible. Also very, very easy - I could do this afghan in my sleep, pretty much. Or more importantly, I can do it with a toddler climbing all over me and mind-numbing Disney tunes on the TV.

Unfortunately, I was so busy keeping Elizabeth from throwing herself out of the buggy while saying good-bye to the cashier that I left the bag with the yarn in it on the counter. The cashier didn't notice until I was gone. I'll go by today and pick it up - but it's a pain.

In this afternoon's installment of the book, the mage will fail to put in an appearance at dinner, two sailors who were sent to explore the island will return and inform Captain SAlvatore of the presence of the Corrado on the other side of the island, and Captain Sal will begin to sail around the island by moonlight. I'm going to set the battle at night just for added drama. I'm picturing a really dark drawing for this one - flashes of light from the cannonfire illuminating parts of the two ships, as the Corrado starts to go down with titanic majesty. The murder of the sailors unlucky enough not to go down with the ship may also be written today. I think I have to make sure Annarisse is torn over that bit - remembering Rocksbarren and wanting vengeance, and feeling totally horrified by the wholesale slaughter and the sharks who do the garbage duty.

I've run out of time to waste. Time to go sort out my literacy lesson.

Who's in charge of your computers? You should get them to switch to Firefox, the pop-up blocker is built in, it's free and it doesn't need to be constantly patched like IE to protect the computers.

The Board makes those decisions. The whole board is on the same intranet dealy, and it's not bad. It's changing soon to First Class, as I just found out, and I'm not sure yet what that means, but it can only be an improvement, IMO.
