If LJ goes down, I have another account with the same username at Insanejournal, where I'll probably move.

Meanwhile, I'll have to wait until today's backlog has cleared before backing up my journal. Man, I've collected a lot of stuff over here in four and a half years.

I'm going to be pretty pissed off if it does happen.

Me too. At least I never bought a paid account. I'd be extra-pissed if I bought a paid account last time they were offering and then they went under within a year.

Not only did I buy a paid account - I bought a permanent account.

Same here and I'm going to demand my money back.

However I did read on cnet.com that they only fired a 5th of their staff and at this time they have no plans to close.. But who knows. They might just be saying that.

Apparently they've moved their main servers from San Francisco to someplace like Montana. Obviously, they aren't going to need their server staff at San Francisco any more. Don't worry. But do back up your journals.

SUP cut half the workforce at the American LJ, and the rumour is they're going to stop supporting it or take it down entirely. I think they're going to grandfather it - no new improvements but leave it up with a skeleton crew.

As long as we get some notice. I presume the clones all work pretty much the same so I might jump, but then I might just go wordpress. I would just miss reading the friends page.

How are you backing up your journal? If it goes down I will probably go to insanejournal too. I was checking it out earlier today.

I haven't decided that - there are companies that will create a complete file with all your journal entries, and I'm sure there are communities full of the information right now. But I'm waiting a bit while the furor dies, because I don't think they're taking LJ down tomorrow.

I've used LJBook (http://www.ljbook.com) before, but I'll have to wait until later to back up my last few months of entries because the service is full right now. I just registered on InsaneJournal--same username as here.

I'm hendrikboom on insanejournal, too. As you can see, my journal there is empty. I suppose one of the things to do is to transfer our friends lists, as they appear there. That might be more work than an automated backup here and restore there.
