Ah yes, brings back memories of the Torrance refinery's regular fires when I was a kid.
One of the weirder weapons I remember reading about was an attempt to make a sonic anti personnel weapon in WWII. It magnified the sound of a propane explosion until it was deadly. It only worked at short range and was dangerous to the operators so it was never deployed.
They told us All they wanted Was a sound that could kill someone From a distance. So we go ahead, And the meters are over in the red. It's a mistake in the making.
Yeah, that was one massive explosion. Usually, I'd be in Toronto at that time in the week, but the family reunion made me miss all the excitement. I was around for that apartment building fire though, so I guess I'm full up on my excitement quota for this month.
And yet, it would seem that the only confirmed death is that of a firefighter who wasn't actually in the thick of things at the time - the speculation is that there was another medical condition that caused his collapse.
Massive fireball, no deaths - if you have to have an emergency, that sounds like a good kind to have.
It's smack in the middle of town, in a large residential district. I think there will be some new bylaws coming out of this, about locating dangerous storage facilities this close to houses. . .
