Purposeful Ramblings Through My Mind

I stumbled across the Pearls by following some links on a friend's blog about parenting (fortunately it wasn't a direct link) and what I read freaked me out. Their techniques seem to be about mind control and manipulation and mindless obedience. I would like my children to listen and obey me but I would also like them to do it because they love me (yes, I know that isn't always possible) not because I beat the heck out of them. And sometimes I am wrong and I would like my children to use their own minds and know that and point it out. I am not saying I don't have ultimate veto power - I am the adult and I have the responsibility to keep them safe and to raise them the best way I know how and for me that means no beatings and no mind control.
