The Pearls methods are tried and true. They are tried and true ways to turn kids into dysfunctional and viokent teens and adults. The Pearls' discipline techniques are basically ghetto techniques. I knew a lot of gang members growing up by virtue of growing up in LA during the eighties in a working class neighborhood. Every single gang member had the idential techniques used on them as children. Especially the whipping into submission which is what ther Pearls advocate. The violence of the gang member seemed to be directly proportional to the amount violence used on them. Combine that kind of abuse with the abandonment that happens when poor parents work two jobs and you get gangs. I also remember a couple of religous white kids who had similar experiences, but combined with a lot parental supervision. Sadly the Pearls are notable only in the fact that they wrote a book. All the small kids learned to run from those older kids because the older kids would catch and torture the smaller ones.
