It seems LJ has started effectively banning certain interests by removing their searchability. Mostly, they're things with a strong cultural taboo, either sexual or racist, and many would be illegal to do - if someone were searching in that vein. What if they're searching in order to find survivors or do a survey of some sort for school, though? There are legitimate reasons to search for things that are culturally taboo, and it worries me that we're being denied the opportunity to decide that for ourselves.

For more info and a fairly extensive list, go here.

Edit: I'm now planning a social studies activity that might involve searching some of these terms - "genocide" and "genocide survivors" in particular. And I've asked LJ Feedback to explain to me why I'm unable to search these terms for a legitimate purpose, and why people who might list them as interests - for example, survivors of genocide - are being given the message that their experience is unwelcome in LJ.
