It's a balmy 8 degrees celsius out. The current thaw has now lasted two and a half weeks - since Christmas weekend - with only a tiny bit of snow in that whole time. The temperatures have been above freezing almost every day, and are scheduled to continue so until the weekend.

It's bizarre. It's January! In Canada! We should be worried about blizzards and ice, not the possibility that our plants will die when they bloom three months early! It's a very real concern at this point - another few days of this, and the crocuses and tulips will start popping up. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see snowdrops within the next few days. They had several weeks for a dormancy period. Is that long enough for spring-blooming bulbs?

On the other hand, every Wednesday that stays above zero is a Wednesday when I don't have to freeze my butt off during my outdoor recess duty, in my too-thin coat. So I'm not complaining.
