Crochety goodness
Apr. 23rd, 2005 02:10 pmI need more crochet thread, size 10, white. This is a good thing. It means I'm making significant progress on the wedding gift I'm making. I've finished off the thread left over on two one-pound balls, so I'm off to Zellers this afternoon to buy more. I have another three or four feet to go - I haven't measured lately, and Piet was asleep in the room with the most accurate measuring device (my quilting ruler) so I'll do that later.
I've also decided what I'm making for my sister's wedding present. I have a set of coasters done in pale yellow over a blue background, all different designs. I love them to death, especially since they're one of the few things I've ever made for myself. My sister is going for an African-themed living room, so I think I'll get some taupe thread, and maybe some black for the background (because I just will not do a chocolate brown - ew) and make up a set for her. I have about eight different patterns for these things - two different crochet magazines ran patterns for four coasters each during the years when I was spending fifteen dollars a month on crochet magazines. Then I'll buy her some nice wine glasses, and voilĂ ! A gift with crocheted flair! (It seems to me I did an almost identical gift for one of Piet's cousins a few years ago - but Alanna wasn't there, and the colours and style of glasses will be different.)
The nicest part about the coasters is that they work up really, really fast - an hour for the lacy part, maybe an hour and a half for the solid background. I can do one each weekend for a month and have them done in plenty of time for the wedding.
All of this means the baby blanket is on hold - probably until I learn that the lady at work who has been trying for four years now is actually expecting and past the 3-month mark. We've all got our fingers crossed for her.
It's nearly two-thirty, which means it's time to start making noise so Elizabeth will wake up. We're going up to Limeridge to do bridal makeup shopping. I think I'll try to talk
danaeris and
sassy_fae into getting their eyebrows waxed. Yippee! Three red-faced women and a baby!
