I brought my kids into the computer lab today to type out their stories. I went around doing two minutes at each machine, typing for them and making suggestions. I can't remember ever typing as slow as they do.
I pulled up my livejournal, copied a chapter from my book into wordperfect, and broadcast it to their screens so they could read it. They were duly impressed. It was the chapter where the characters arrive at Baron Affligeant's house, chosen because there's nothing un-kid-friendly in it, and it has a lot of description and conversation in it, the two things I was stressing as they wrote. They liked Treeden best. I told them he was more of a jerk in other chapters, but in that chapter, he was at his very best. :) I also told them he'd been played by the Costume Lady. I should have pulled up those photos of the Aslan costume, but I forgot. I'll do it next week when we're in here again.
My report cards are done and signed by me and the principal. Now they need to be photocopied (one copy for my records, one for the OSR), folded, stuffed, and the photocopies filed in the appropriate folders. That's two more hours of work on them, but it's grunt work. I can handle it.
The noisy, rude, immature, super-smart kid was back today after three days sick. I remembered why it was that he stresses me out so much. It's the way he has of repeating my instructions in silly voices, sometimes while I'm still talking. It's the noises. It's the out-of-seat stuff. It's the falling-out-of-seat stuff. It's the rude facial expressions. He seems to have forgotten what happened the last time I got fed up and called his mother. It's time for a reminder, I think. I enjoyed his sick days. I'm not planning on letting the class go back to the way it was before them.
