For those of you who are not familiar with our long-running D&D campaign, Velvet is my alterego rogue-shadowdancer. (I was using the name for other things before; it just seemed to suit the character, somehow. Since Velvet turned out to be a not-uncommon name online, I added my maiden name to it and came up with something that, I think, suits me very well.)

Anyhow, we finally played again last night. Now, as a rogue, Velvet gets lots of experience opening locks and sneaking, and her sneak attack bonus is really nice, but she's not a fighter. Usually, she gets to do fifteen or twenty points' damage to the monsters, who are then finished off by one of the fighters who do sixty points damage in one round.

Last night, I killed the Beholder! I got under it, and it was too busy dealing with those of the group who were still around it to handle me or even drop down on me. Then I stabbed upwards. It was ruled a sneak attack, because it couldn't see me at the time. So I killed it, then used my really nice reflex save to get out from under it, and all of a sudden it was dead.

It felt really good.

Now we get to save the bat-people we came to rescue (there seem to be a lot of bats in our campaigns recently, somehow), maybe kill a few other odd monsters, get out and get back. Oh, and we have to kill that half-orc half-dragon who's working for Iuz. Hopefully that won't take very long.
