Jul. 2nd, 2004 08:28 pmWell, Elizabeth and I accomplished a great deal today. We bought her new shoes, size five, velcro-closing running shoes, very cute. We also bought her three new t-shirts, one pair of shorts, and two pairs of socks to match two of the t-shirts. Mommy, of course, got a new tank top worth less than $10 out of the day. Still, it was fun.
We also went to a picnic with Oma, Opa, two aunts from opposite sides of the family, Grandma, and Grandpa Larry (so-called to distinguish him from my father, called Grandad, who would be happier if I kept Gr. Larry out of her life entirely.) We had sausages, sauerkraut, veggie kebabs, spinach salad, and garden salad, and Grandma's Famous Cherry Cheesecake for dessert. (I ate all of it, diet to the contrary notwithstanding. Oh well.) The sprout ran around with the dog, played in the stream and got her socks and pants soaking wet, went down the slide a few dozen times, and generally had the time of her life.
Now she's gone to sleep, at least an hour ahead of schedule, and I'm debating waking her up and worrying that if I do, I'll be up with her till midnight, and if I don't, she'll wake up at midnight and stay up till three. It's a tough call.
Though I don't believe in opening stores every day of the year, I still find holidays much more boring than the weekend around them.
