Governments didn't take away from the churches a system of social welfare that was working. They stepped in to cover a deficit in social welfare; that is, the churches were not doing a good enough job, for a variety of reasons, many of which have to do with the fact that governments are less-bound by the effects of going into debt than churches and their congregants are. Governments can spend through a recession, when people need the help the most - churches and their congregants can't.
I didn't watch the Graham interview, because I was having so much trouble getting the roundtable section to load that I didn't go back to watch the other sections.
The body language of Dr. Land when Mr. Patel (the Muslim) spoke was telling. There were several thinly-disguised sneers that didn't seem to be directed at the other people at the table.
