MY BOOK CAME!!!!!

I just got the proof copy of my book in the mail. I'm so excited!!!!!!!!

It's one of only two or three copies of this edition - it's got a different cover from the copy that will be for sale, has a very interesting and entirely fictitious author bio, the picture from the icon above as the picture of the author, and it's absolutely beautiful and I love it and I'm thrilled with it and I should be ashamed of this run-on sentence and I DON'T CARE because I'm EXCITED!!!!

Hello

First, congratulations on the book! That's awesome!

Second...er...well, you don't know me at all...though I am a very very close and good friend of Ani's. I have some questions about your book...most directly, how did you go about getting published? And what genre is your book in? I'm curious, as I have no idea how to go about publishing the things I've been writing.

Thanks!

And again, congratulations!

Frank

I'm afraid this isn't going to be much help, actually. The book is a fantasy novel based on a furry role-playing game called Ironclaw. My husband did a fair amount of writing for the game, and was play-testing a new supplement with that campaign. Since the book was set in the Ironclaw world, the publisher/author of Ironclaw, [livejournal.com profile] normanrafferty, whose comment is just above yours, owns the rights to the setting of my book. So I sent him the finished book, he liked it, and is publishing it. It's an inside deal from start to finish, which isn't to say the book isn't good - it is - just that I didn't have to work very hard at pitching it to publishers.

For advice on how to sell a book, check out [livejournal.com profile] mizkit. She wrote an entry a while back, though I can't find it in my bookmarks for some reason, abut how to get published. Hopefully it's in her memories.
