Correlation /= Causation!

You'd think Scientific American would know that. I mean, really. Two little words: OUTSIDE FACTORS. Talk about bad scientific reporting.

We eat in front of the tv when the dining room table and/or kitchen are too disorganized to eat at the table, or when people are over and there isn't enough room for everyone at the table. In the first case, there's a good chance that the disorganization of the table is directly related to disorganization of supper, in which case, we may be eating fast food or some other easy-fix supper. So, correlation but no causation, there - refusing to eat in front of the TV would not necessarily mean I was spending more time cooking that meal. In the second case, we're cooking for a crowd, and there are often MORE vegetables involved.
