Stuff

The good news is, the baby slept much better last night. She got up only once during the night, at 3:40 a.m., took some medicine, cuddled for a moment, and went right back to sleep when I put her down.

The bad news is, Mommy had trouble getting back to sleep after that - probably waiting for the other shoe to drop. I just dozed from that point out, so I've had about two hours less sleep than I really needed, and two days of this are starting to catch up with me.

Other good news - my report card comments are done except for the "next steps" ones, which I will do tonight. All the others are on my principal's desk, and I think they'll pass muster (I was being very careful to write them to specifications. I believe I've mentioned before that my principal is a stickler. She expects uniform style across the school for comments, which is fine by me since she told us exactly what she wanted.) I've confirmed with my brother that he is in fact coming to the Remembrance Day ceremony, wearing dress uniform and ready to play The Last Post and Reveille (which he plays much better than he spells - you'd think the brother of a French teacher could get one word right!) He's also going to talk a bit about his peacekeeping tour in Bosnia. I'm very happy with all this. I was a bit afraid that he'd back out at the last minute or something, since the last time we talked I was rather critical of a few things in his life.

My Developmental Reading Assessments are not much nearer to done than they were yesterday, but I effectively have until Monday to finish those and my reports, and I should be able to manage it. We're going to game it up on Friday, though, in preparation for the thrice-annual Report Card Race for the rest of the weekend.

Okay, now I DO feel mentally deficient. I didn't know Canada had any sort of military other than the Mounties. I guess they just stay out of the headlines, unlike ours... :/

Something that sucks about American public schools - they encourage a certain self-centered way of thinking by teaching little about foreign history or customs. What little I learned in school about the world outside our borders came from optional language classes. Luckily, I did a lot of reading on my own.

They stay out of the headlines, other than when American bombers kill a few with "friendly fire" or some such. (Sorry. National rant.)

Canada's military is underfunded, underequipped, and very good at what it does for the most part. They do more with less than many better-funded armies. We contribute more people per capita to UN peacekeeping missions than any other nation, though I think that's been changing over the last decade or so.
