A Christian Left community?

It would appear that there is exactly one Christian Left community on livejournal, and it has very, very few members and only three or four posts, all by the same guy. The last one was posted just before Terry Schiavo died. I admit I didn't look at the comments. (Oh, I just found another, about liberal Christianity. Also not very active.)

There are half a dozen, at least, Christians on my list whom I would describe as liberal to varying degrees, and who describe themselves as such. So, tell me: if I started such a community, would you join it? This question is by no means limited to Christians, btw. I would set it up so I approved membership, thereby giving myself the right to kick people out if necessary, but I'd let in everyone who went to the trouble of asking, and the rule would be the same as the rule here: reasoned, friendly debate.

I'm in.

And if it is ok, I would even post Christian Left events I hear about, too. (On top of discussions.) So people can network. If you think that is appropriate.

Or I would let people know about sites, like CPT, if that is appropriate.

That's exactly what I would like for this community - to network left-leaning Christians, inform them, exchange ideas - all of it. And the bigger the community, the better we'll do this, so advertise wherever you can.

May I lurk?

Thank you! ;)

Sounds good...though might I ask...if there are already 2 groups you've found...why not just invite all of us to join those?

[identity profile] velvetpage.livejournal.com 2006-10-15 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
a) They're currently not at all active, and I'd rather not take over someone's community that thoroughly; b) one of them at least makes me nervous; c) I've got some minor control-freak genes, and they're screaming for debate-moderator status. :)

I'm neither Christian nor liberal, but I wouldn't mind lurking.

You are absolutely welcome do to that. :)

Did you try [livejournal.com profile] dark_christian?

[identity profile] velvetpage.livejournal.com 2006-10-15 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
I haven't created it yet. I'm just drumming up interest. When I do, I'll advertise there, because many of the people there will be interested in a community like this.

[identity profile] ghostwes.livejournal.com 2006-10-15 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
I thought of that too. I imagine the memberships would be similar. I'm not sure that "Dark Christian" is the kind of image liberal Christians would want to associate with themselves... sounds too much like Dark Jedi.

On the other hand, if they could promise me Dark Jedi powers, it might actually entice me to trade in my atheism for Christianity... hmm.

Absolutely, without a doubt.

I would love to be part of that community.

You've really helped me in terms of reconciling with the religion of my birth, in realizing that it doesn't have to be taken literally and narrowly.

I promise to be entirely respectful.

Ooh! Do I count as a liberal? ^_^

[identity profile] velvetpage.livejournal.com 2006-10-15 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That's entirely up to you. You're certainly welcome to join. :)

[identity profile] grrl-next-door.livejournal.com 2006-10-15 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a conservative liberal. Or a liberal conservative. Depends on how you want to look at it, haha.
I'd join, but I can't promise you I'd be very active.

Fair enough. :)
