Trunks
I finally cleaned out what has been affectionately called the "boot trunk" for Piet's whole life. It has been in my living room for years, pushed up against the mantle since Elizabeth arrived. I converted it from storing my china at the apartment, to storing wrapping paper and gift stuff, not long after we moved into the house. It's been fulfilling that purpose ever since.
Well, the new cedar chest is going into that spot, the boot trunk is going to Oma and Opa's house to live out its days, and that meant evaluating my wrapping collection and paring it down.
I threw out two old rolls of wrapping paper that I didn't like too much, half a dozen bags and boxes that weren't in very good shape, and reorganized the rest so that it takes up a fraction of the space it did before. I also took the cases designed for storing fine china and found a home for them in the new chest. My tissue-paper stash is smaller now, since I threw out all the wrinkled stuff that I'd been hoarding. And there's still lots of room in the cedar chest for the blankets, tablecloths, napkins and other linens that I wanted to store there. So I'm happy.
Of course, as soon as I got all of that sorted out, I realized that I should have emptied both trunks, moved them while empty, and then reorganized my life into them. Oh, well. The full chest only has to move a few feet. Piet's a strong guy, he can handle it. :)
