New book concept

Possibly, when this one is done.

I have a talent for getting ahead of myself.

Anyhow - it's a spin-off, or a prequel, depending on your point of view. I want to write the story of how the Dreamcarver got herself imprisoned in an underwater tower. This involves creating an entire political structure and society for dolphins in an Ironclaw setting. That makes it a much, much bigger job than the current book.

Anyone interested in helping me flesh out this concept? I especially want pictures, right now. I'm not entirely sure how anthropomorphic dolphins would look. [livejournal.com profile] paka? [livejournal.com profile] redstorm? Anyone else?

The beauty of this is that Piet's High Seas supplement hasn't been published, or even finished, yet. That gives me much, much more flexibility. It also gives me a lot more work to do to get it off the ground.

Jordan Peacock has many, many dolphin images.

Where will I find them, or can you procure them for me?

I should have some at home.

Startide Rising

David Brin's novel Startide Rising has a number of sentient dolphin characters. It might provide some inspiration for your dolphin society.

Oh yeah! I thought a lot of the cultural elements of Brin's dolphins were really interesting. The way they related to the Orcas and the Whales and the concept of 'rescue fever' and stuff. I would definitely recommend it for creating a dolphin culture.

I've got some thoughts happening now, so I think I'll leave off any additional reading until I have a plot and society outline on the bytes. Then I won't feel like I'm stealing if I borrow from Brin for some detail.

The only well-drawn anthropomorphic dolphins I can remember seeing were, let's say, caught with their pants down. 0_o :D

Um. . . never mind. :)
