For those who might be interested. . .

A petition for American health care that you take with you regardless of your employment status, subsidized as needed, and high-quality. I haven't taken the time to investigate it fully, but for those of you who would like to, there's your link. Have fun.

oh yes, that is indeed interesting, as someone who has been uninsured for four years, that piques my interest a lot.

but what does that mean for doctors? Is there a risk that making health coverage universal will result in getting less than excellent medical care? Will the doctors be generously compensated and will their standards be the same?

I mention this only because the kids' ped. and I have talked about universal health care a few times. He cites the same problem I do: going to medical is time consuming and costly. Doctors need to know their investment will be returned with interest or we'll end up with second rate physicians.

just food for thought.

As someone who has always lived under universal health care, I can tell you that doctors here aren't hurting. They live in the nicest parts of town and drive nice cars, etc, etc. They're not super-rich, but they're near the top of the middle-class ladder, especially if they're specialists. And we get good quality care, too.

I would imagine there would be a lot of doctors in the States who would be prepared to take a bit of a pay cut (not much, but a bit) if it meant they were able to treat patients as they needed rather than as their insurance would pay for.
