Hey, wow! I know one of these was constructed back in the seventies in the US on a strictly research scale. IIRC it worked very well. I always wondered why these didn't get built on a large scale back then.

I've read that one of the drawbacks to that whole mirror concept is maintenance. The sunniest places tend to be deserts full of sand and rocks. Every time you have a wind storm you can imagine the effect it has on all of those smooth shiny surfaces.
